Just a Thought

Lately I've been thinking to myself that guys in the Toronto club/bar scene have stepped up their game in the clothing department....unfortunately at the expense of some of their female counterparts. For starters, more guys seem to be embracing more of a cleaned up yet casual night look these days, ie:
  • Converse/fred perry sneakers instead of black chunky "dress shoes"
  • Dark fitted jeans as opposed to baggy medium/light wash nasties
  • Simple yet sharp shirt choices such as a crisp white v-neck (always a personal fave) with a cardigan of your choice, or
  • A casual, slim fit button-up shirt (ie seersucker print) with the sleeves rolled up, as opposed to a cha-chi typical clubbing "dress shirt"...kill me.
Now for the ladies... if I see anymore "clear" bra straps (which clearly aren't clear), worn with your "going-out tops" (tacky tacky tacky), & your out-of-season-out-of-style strappy sandles in the middle of winter - you will leave me no choice but to shake my head in pure shame.

Word on the Street...

Rumour has it U.S. retailer Target is considering expanding their designer collaboration tagline into international markets, which would also include...ahem, Canada. If this day does indeed come, it will be a very joyous occasion for those of us who have previously headed south of the border to purchase their affordable and all-encompassing merchandise....we're talking everything from dorm-room furnishings to hanes white v-necks to summercamp essentials. Unfortunately nothing is confirmed yet, and if the strategy does indeed materialize it won't be for at least another 3 years. Hey, I say that's one small step for Target, one giant leap for Stylista Fashionstas.

Me Likey PINK TARTiNi

Hands down one of my faaaavourite Canadian designers, PINK TARTAN is definitely here to stay. I first lay my eyes on the stunning F/W 2009 collection at L'Oreal Fashion Week in Toronto. From that point on I realised I was not alone in my affinity for PT. A list models and celebritites such as Kate Hudson & Kim Catrall have been seen at various events in their favourite pieces. The line incorporates the perfect balance of clean lines, contemporary designs, gorgeous silhouettes, rich fabrics, colours & textures and of course unparalleled s t y l e. Needless to say, I am counting down the days until February 15th - the great day that the Pink Tartan S/S Collection passes will go on sale for another round of fun at Toronto Fashion Week. Save the date Stylista Fashionistas.

Thong Th-Thong Thong...Gone?

From Sisqo to Borat to the 90s in general, is time to put the thong away once and for all? According to the February issue of Cosmo: "The thong is officially dead." All around the world, females have graciously welcomed the onset of "booty shorts" with open arms... I mean budunkadunks. But is it really true? Are we welcoming back comfort at the expense of the visible panty line? Quite the pickle if you ask me.

To the Future & Beyooooond!

... is no Joker with these avant-garde booties from his Spring/Summer 2010 Collection. I mean we have already seen moccasins, gladiators, spice girl platforms, dominatrix heels, uggs, studded-everythings and.....well.....crocs - so I think there is the perfect time to introduce these little puppies. It makes me wonder though - what is next? I mean, what bases have we yet to cover? I'm thinking 3 little words: Scuba Diving Flippers. I can just see them strutting down the runways of Milan now...

Introducing: The COOL Effect

They've done it again. As the trusted and unrivaled world leaders of fine men's clothing, Ermenegildo Zegna's latest cutting-edge innovation is the Cool Effect fabric. Perfect for those warmer work months, this fabric has been geniously engineered to reflect the sun's rays and thus protect against the heat (and sweat) caused by direct natural sunlight. This is no science fair joke. The fabric's patented treatment actually allows it to reflect 80% of solar radiation, lowering one's perceived body temperature by 10 degrees. Finally a way to have your cake and eat it too - the answer to feeling cool on both the outside and the inside. Bravo.

Move Over Anna...

As the editor-in-chief of French Vogue, Carine Roitfeld is definitely here to stay. Before landing her big gig with Vogue in 2001, this Stylista Fashionista worked for years as a stylist, model and writer for french ELLE. In the early 90's after years as a freelance stylist, Carine teamed up with fashion photogrpaher Mario Testino, doing advertising work as well as shoots for American and French Vogue. At around this same time, Carine also caught the eye of Mr. Tom Ford. She went on to became both his muse and consultant at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent for many years. And then came the shining light at the end of the fashion tunnel - French Vogue. Today Carine continues to be heralded as one of the most powerful names in fashion. It must be in the name ...
