Common Fashion Myths: Busted!

We have all heard these so called "Fashion Rules" a million times & I am here to set the record straight once and for all. All y'all Stylista Fashionistas better listen up because I'm about to go there....

Myth #1: Never wear Navy and black together.

Are you kidding me? I am a major proponent for wearing navy as a complementary colour to black - especially if the navy or black piece has some sort of coloured detailing or hardware to balance out the look. A tip to keep in mind is to opt for a lighter shade of navy to avoid that "Is that a really dark blue or is that an off-black" navy with black look. Always remember that black really does go with everything!

Verdict: False

Myth #2: A maximum of One denim piece is acceptable per look.

Welcome to 2010 people. If you look around at your fellow Stylista Fashionistas, I can guarantee you will see denim button up shirts paired with jeans in all parts of the city. The trick here is to have one piece darker than the other so to avoid appearing dressed in a head to toe denim hazzzze.

Verdict: False

Myth #3: White should not be worn after Labour Day.

This one's easy. Have you ever heard of the popular fashion colour known as Winter White? (ie: on Winter peacoats, lined wool trousers, touque, angora scarf & glove sets galore etc.) Well, my friends, the Winter season definitely comes after Labour Day (Summer) which is essentially the antithesis to this proposterous myth in and of itself. pic c/o whowhatwear.com

Verdict: False

Myth #4: Socks with sandals is a Fashion No-No.

Aside from the currently in-style sandal heels with socks trend, I am here to officially announce that the pairing of any sort of sock with anything from a flip flop, crock, or hiking sandal - is an absolute blasphemy on the fashion world.

Verdict: True

...Consider yourselves busted, Myths!

Well Stylista Fashionistas, our prayers of shopping and shipping have officially been answered! The website http://www.tiastar.com is a 100% Canadian-owned online boutique that specializes in 3 things: dresses, dresses and some more dresses. Check out some images from the event which will be featured in Rodic's new book...

Fashion Gets a Dose of Vitamin C

Silk organza tops, hand-knit chunky sweaters & an assortment of wool bottoms make the Orange by Angela Chen FW 2010 Collection an absolute staple of any modern-woman's wardrobe. Competitors such as Club Monaco must be Orange with envy, as this Vancouver-raised designer is setting a new precedent when it comes to minimal, structured & ready-to-wear pieces. I for one am looking forward to my early May trip to Vancouver, as I plan on picking up a couple of these little commodities myself.

Tweet Tweet

Ever since the Pink Tartan show on Wednesday evening I have been wondering why Jeanne Beker - host of Fashion Televesion - was m.i.a. from her usual front row seat at LG Fashion Week. Well it appears as if I finally have my answer. For anyone else who may have also been wondering, our beloved Stylista Fashionista sent out a tweet to address just this question: "Wondering why I haven't been tweeting from LGFW? It's Passover, and sorry, but family rules over fashion!"

You go girl.

Special Guest Appearance by...

As I was exiting the Allstream Centre after the Pink Tartan fashion show, I was n0-less-than floored to see a limo driver standing in the foyer holding up a piece of paper which read the name of one of the most inspring plus-size models in today's fashion world.....
Ms. Crystal Renn is no average (and I'm not just talking about size) model. At the young age of 14, Crystal was told by a model scout that if she wanted to be a successful model she would have to loose approximately 1/3 of her total body weight. Crystal did just that & entered the modeling world as a size zero. She eventually developed a crippling eating disorder and suffered relentlessly from anorexia in an attempt to maintain her frame...
Fortunately for Crystal, she decided to make a change & opt-out of the traditional size 0 modelling industry. She took 3 years off to reclaim her health (and 70 healthy pounds) and re-emerged into the fashion world as a size 12 "plus-size" model.
Crystal has since achieved a heightened level of success and fame with her new, more curvacious figure. Renn is considered to be the best-known and best-paid "plus size" model in the business, and has been featured in fashion magazines like American Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. Crystal Renn's face and name have now become synonymous with her crusade to alter the way the fashion world enforces the beauty ideal. She is also an advocate for a wider array of sample sizes (as most sample sizes ae currently set at a size 0 or 2).
What's morrrrrrrrre is that this all-encompassing Stylista Fashionista made a surprise special guest appearance down the runway of the Joe Fresh show at LG Fashion Week in Toronto.
Now that's what I call a role-model...

Toronto LG Fashion Week

There were quite a few spectator street style looks that I admired from my consumer seat at both the Pink Tartan and David Dixon shows....however this Stylista Fashionista took the cake for the Best Dressed (and oh-so-effortless looking!) look. I salute you.

Check out the amazing eyelet detailing on this beautiful Rebecca Taylor blazer.....
