Another Encore Performance

Just days after the launch of his Fall 2011 Collection at London Fashion Week, Scottish fashion designer Christopher Kane is the talk of the town....yet again.

According to Kane, the starting point of this fabulous collection was to find a textile that had never been used.  Initially inspired by the lava lamp, Kane chose to use a fabric made of plastic filled with encapsulated liquid comprised of vegetable oil and glycerine.  When heated against the body, the fluid begins to bubble and move its way up through its shaped plastic casing...creating quite a show within a show!

It is exactly this kind of revolutionary thinking which continues to make Christopher Kane one of the most respected and highly-anticipated designers of his time.

Androgyny Defined: Andrej Pejic

After glancing at the above pic, which model would you guess is of the male variety?  Right? Left? Both? Neither?

The surprising answer is: neither.  Meet Andrej Pejic, the fashion world's latest obsession - and rightfully so.  After making his runway debut at the Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2011 show, Pejic's groundbreaking look has been sought after by the likes of Marc Jacobs, Steven Meisel and Martyn Bal - not to mention stompin' out the pages of Vogue Turkey, Italia and the creme de la creme, Vogue Paris.

Whether Andrej is being photographed as a female, male or somewhere in between one thing is for sure: Beauty has officially been proven to be fluid.

Keep us guessin, Andrej.

Shame on You, John Galliano.

Christian Dior's head fashion designer, John Galliano, was arrested Thursday night after allegedly uttering anti-semitic insults at a couple in a Parisian bar.  Dior's Chief Executive, Sidney Toledano, issued a public statement stating that "Dior affirms with the utmost conviction its policy of zero tolerance towards any antisemitic or racist words or behaviour."  As a result, Galliano has been been put on suspension from his responsibilities at Christian Dior.  Furthermore, reports state that Galliano will face criminal charges and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Out with the Old & In with the New?

Since returning from my brief hiatus from the fashion world, I was recently talking to a fellow fashionista of mine and we found ourselves being faced with a serious question:

Are Fashion Blogs sooo 2010?

With the pre-2011 booming success of fashion bloggers such as The Man Repeller, The Style RookieSea of Shoes & The Facehunter to name but a mere few (and NO, I intentionally did not include The Sartorialist cuz enough is enough, homies) - I can't help but wonder if this medium has simply been played out and is now headed for the inevitable bust phase of any great success...

Maybe I'm just being cynical, or maybe there is a percentage of truth behind my thoughts. Opinions aside at the end of the day the truth is we all know that nothing lasts forever and we all must accept this bold fact of life.

But don't worry - in the words of HOVA himself it'll simply be time to move on to the next one...

Thoughts?
