Lucian Matis: Fall 2011

Hey kids.  I just got in from the Lucian Matis show and boy did it knock my grey party socks off.  Although a bit shorter than I had anticipated, each and every look was absolutely sensational boasting beautiful black beading and gem work, knits galore and out of this world silhouettes and shaping.

Pictured here is Lucian Matis himself and his fabulous modelabras.  My favourite look was hands down the bejeweled number to the far right.  Seeing it on the runway made me wish I kept my damn Bedazzler from way back when.  Come to think of it, I'm gonna google the Bedazzler right now....

Ok great news!  The Bedazzler still exists and it's available online for $19.95.

Shit! I just realized they only ship to the damn US.  Way to rain on my fashion parade, Bedazzler. Damn you.

Elizabeth Taylor: 1932-2011

The world has lost a true fashion icon. Elizabeth Taylor passed away this morning at the age of 79. Her unparalleled legacy will live on for decades to come. Taylor's son, Michael Wilding, remembers his dear mother through the following statement:

Mizrahi takes a stand.

It is nice to finally see a prominent fashion figure taking a firm stance on the Galliano incident. Not that I'm surprised in the slightest, but Isaac Mizrahi has officially broken the mold and has gone on the record as saying that Galliano's anti-semitic remarks are "unforgivable" and that he hopes "he never works again."

With all the crazy anti-semitic shit that is going on in our world today and everyday, I would like to personally thank Mr Mizrahi for letting diplomacy and public opinion sit out for this round in favour of the truth.

Takeaway: Public figures should not be scared of voicing their reactions - they should be scared of the initial actions which propel the reactions themselves.

I cannot handle the fashion house that is Balmain. Each piece in the Fall 2011 RTW Collection is more exquisite than the last.  The only piece missing from the fabulous show was the final bow from Balmain's head designer, Christophe Decarnin, who was recently hospitalized for depression.  We all wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to his continued bright and dazzling future.  Check out the full collection here.

Dress for Success

Today was my first day as an official volunteer for Dress for Success Toronto.  I can't tell you how amazing it felt to help these amazing women find work appropriate clothing for their interviews or new jobs.  I really recommend volunteering for Dress for Success and with 105 affiliates in the US, Canada, New Zealand, the Netherlands, the UK, Mexico, Poland and the West Indies, there is bound to be a location in your neighborhood.

I would just like to say how much respect I have for the Christian Dior organization.  The fashion house stuck to their beliefs and gave John Galliano the ultimate boot Tuesday morning after a video surfaced displaying Galliano's abhorrent anti-semitic and racist behaviour.   Dior's chief executive Sidney Toledano said Galliano's behaviour was totally against "the values which have always been defended by Christian Dior."
