Did You Know?

Shopping burns 275 calories an hour?

Keep in mind that's an average number, meaning that psycho serious shoppers (such as myself) push that number to the max considering the amount of the rack-rifling, clothes-carrying, shoe-trying, clothes-trying, shopping bag-carrying and wallet-retrieving action that goes on...

Fun Fact

Did you know that Brazilian flip-flop giant Havaianas (pronounced ah-vai-yAH-nas) is Portugese for Hawaiians?

Now you know!

StyleMint-ers

Our favorite 86er twins are back on the fashion radar making waves with the launch of their latest entrepreneurial/sisterly venture: www.StyleMint.com

Referred to as a "social shopping site," StyleMint allows the consumer to create a free personal style profile (based on a pre-determined set of questions).  The little website that could then spews out a customized T-shirt recommendation designed by Ash & MK themselves.  At this magical point the customer has the choice of either purchasing the tee online for $29.99 or saying no and logging out.

Essentially, the site operates similarly to an online book-of-the-month or monthly CD club - sans the obligation to buy.

GetItGotItGood.

If you require further clarification on this business model or if you'd enjoy watching the twins say the word organic about 100 times in a minute and forty seconds, feel free to click here.

Fringe Update

In order to keep my word I decided to fringe a t-shirt of my own last night.  Choosing a shirt to fringe was a no-brainer as I had recently purchased a Native Indian over-sized tee from Value Village which I knew was perfect for this project.  All in all, my fringe fest turned out quite well, however I did learn three important lessons about DYI at-home designs:

1) Cut off the bottom hem of the t-shirt before conducting the pivotal fringe.  I unwisely decided to skip this necessary step and ended up with oddly flared fringes (sounds like it could look cool but trust me it wasn't).  In order to remedy this mess I had to go back and individually cut off the hem on each fringe piece.  Sigh.

2) Cut off the arms to make a tank or a shorter sleeved tee.  The regular length sleeves made the shirt look unbalanced as the arms had too much fabric.  Thus I decided to chop the sleeves off halfway in order to better balance the proportions.

3) Most importantly, I learned to go with the flow and not worry about perfect cutting/line-spacing, because at the end of the day the shirt in fact looks best more rugged.  That being said, I cut my shirt in the dark by candlelight which, upon retrospect, may have been too much of a laissez-faire approach.  Live and learn kids, live and learn.

Now that you are equipped with the tools to learn from the mistakes of others - a.k.a. me - I wish you the very best of luck in your future fringe endeavors and hope you have a fabulous time in the wonderful world of fringe!

Did I mention the word fringe too many times in that last sentence?  Laissez-faire writing approach, laissez-faire.
